Thanks to the high bandwidth, higher color depths and image repetition frequencies can now also be achieved.
For example, 8K image material can be reproduced in the 4:4:4 color space with a color depth of 12-bit (uncompressed). Compressed (DSC 1.2), 10K can also be transmitted in the 4:4:4 color space with 16-bit color depth.
Higher frame rates and bandwidths are more and more important in 3D, VR applications and video games.
Using the enhanced audio return channel (eARC), object-based audio formats can now also be sent over the HDMI cable.
For this purpose, the permissible bandwidth for the enhanced audio return channel has been increased from 1Mbit/s to 37Mbit/s.
